They’re back: Meaford’s annual line-up of scarecrows has taken to the streets dressed as athletes, referees, cheerleaders, coaches and spectators during this, the Year of Sport.
Now till mid-October, Meaford streets and public spaces will showcase what community spirit, hundreds of volunteer hours, and boundless creativity can produce, and what has earned Meaford recognition for two years in a row as one of the top 100 festivals and events in Ontario.
The high note to Meaford’s month-long scarecrow extravaganza will be, as always, the annual Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2nd, beginning at 6 p.m. with a parade down Sykes Street to the town’s harbour pavilion, followed by activities for children and the young-at-heart, a live auction of the apple pie contest winning entries, a farmers’ market, and refreshments.
