It will soon be time for the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Meaford Scarecrow Invasion & Family Festival. Volunteers in Meaford, Bognor, Annan and Leith are making it happen with plans for scarecrow displays at Station Hill, downtown Meaford, in Bognor and in Annan and Leith beginning on September 6 and lasting till after the Thanksgiving weekend.
On August 17, event sponsors joined the ranks of the dedicated volunteers who are working hard to meet the September 6th deadline when hundreds of scarecrows will invade Meaford, Bognor, Annan, and Leith. Three hundred scarecrow bodies have been in storage since the end of June awaiting the day when they will come alive in full scarecrow attire – straw hats, recycled clothing held together with classic scarecrow patchwork, their pant legs bursting out with raffia and their comical faces conveying each a unique personality.
