Introducing new business competition chair

Meet Sherman Wood, the Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival newest committee chair.

May 30, 2022 – Sherman Wood has been working behind the scenes since May planning the return of the Scarecrow Invasion Business Competition.

As in the past, businesses throughout the municipality will be invited to create a scarecrow display either indoors or out-of-doors and submit their business name for judging.

Sherman’s enthusiasm for all things Meaford is heartening. He was born in Meaford and returned to live here permanently in October, 2020. “My personal goal is to encourage people to come and visit the area and all of the different events happening here,” he says.

Sherman brings extensive community experience to the role of business competition chair. While living in Markdale, he served as president of the Grey Highlands recreation committee and he served on the municipality’s community advisory committee.

Sherman is putting together a team of volunteers to help him contact all municipal businesses with the details of the competition, judge the entries, and organize the awards presentation.

The 2022 Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival is scheduled for September 6 to the Tuesday after the Thanksgiving weekend with a parade on Sykes Street and family festival at Rotary Harbour Pavilion on September 30.
