“We did it again. It is such an honour to be counted among such significant and prestigious events.”
Marilyn Morris, Head Scarecrow Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival.
Meaford’s Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival continues to be recognized as an event that excels within the festivals and events industry. The award-winning event has been named to the 2018 Festivals Events Ontario’s (FEO) Top 100 list. Winners of the
prestigious award were announced on Friday, March 2, during the FEO Annual Conference in Hamilton.
“We did it again,” says Head Scarecrow Marilyn Morris. “When I look at the list of winners, I feel honoured that ours is counted among significant and prestigious events such as Sainte Marie Among the Hurons First Light Festival, Fergus’s colourful Scottish Festival, Niagara’s Wine Festival, Doors Open Ontario, Toronto’s Caribbean Festival, Kitchener-Waterloo’s Oktoberfest. Five years in a row….wow.”
Each year, the invasion’s executive member, Mary Solomon, compiles media releases, brochures, photos, and supporting documents and submits them to a panel of independent judges for review. Friday’s announcement of the Top 100 award is a timely one as the executive and volunteers gear up for the 22nd annual invasion and family festival. This year’s scarecrows are expected to hit the streets early September and linger well into October. The popular parade and festival are scheduled for Friday, September 28.
