The Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival were the recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Tourism Award sponsored by Third Line Homes. This award presented to a business with a commitment to local tourism through a welcoming attitude, awareness and promotion of local attractions.
The Citation read:
The 2014 Top 100 Festivals & Events in Ontario (FEO) is presented by VIA Rail Canada. According to Festivals and Events Ontario the top 100 recipients represent festivals and events that excel within the industry. The Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival sent in a submission to FEO for consideration in the fall of 2013 and all submissions were judged by an independent panel of judges. From community festivals to internationally recognized events, festivals and events of all kinds and from every corner of Ontario were represented in the submissions. To be named one of the top hundred festivals once is amazing but they will be included on that list in 2015 as well.
Meaford’s Head Scarecrow says “there isn’t a place in the world like Meaford where residents, businesses and organizations band together to make the community the best it can be. The Scarecrow Invasion is a perfect example of that collaboration, and why everyone in town should take a much deserved bow for earning Provincial recognition!“
For nineteen years the Scarecrow Invasion has been bringing thousands of people to town each year to see what has been created. The Family Festival, while more of a local event, is a wonderful culmination to the invasion.
The entire Municipality should be proud of the Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival but for now we need to recognize the people that bring us this wonderful event.
Marilyn Morris, Head Scarecrow responds to this honour:
On March 28, at the Chamber Community Awards Gala, the Scarecrow Invasion & Family Festival was presented with the 2014 Tourism Award, sponsored by Third Line Homes. It was a real thrill to receive such a prestigious award, for the 2nd year in a row…..a real compliment to the recognition of the”visitor impact” on Meaford by the Invasion on our community.
When I “blushingly” accepted the honour on stage, I did so recognizing the tremendous effort by our 300 volunteers, especially the coordinating effort by our 10 person Executive…..the group that keeps all the balls in the air for 11 months of the year. There is a no more dedicated bunch than our Executive team, and one that I’m incredibly proud to be associated with! I swear this group could run the world!!
I also recognized the critical support of our Official Sponsors, of which we have 15 in 2015!. Since all the activities are free to the participants, their commitment to the Scarecrow Invasion allows the event to exist and grow, as well as to have impact, not only in Meaford, but in Grey & Bruce Counties. I say it time & time again – we could NOT mount the event without our valued sponsors!
Also partnering with us this year is Community Foundation Grey/Bruce who is sponsoring a Scarecrow Art Project our Decorating Committee has cooked up, and that will be great fun this fall for both experienced and budding artists of all ages!
We are indeed lucky to live in this generous community!!
In the event you haven’t heard the latest Festivals & Events news bulletin, for the 2nd year in a row, The Scarecrow Invasion & Family Festival was named to the “Top 100 Festivals & Events in Ontario” by Festivals & Events Ontario. We couldn’t be prouder of that great honour!
I am sending this little communiqué to a variety of ‘partners’………
“To”…….Scarecrow Executive (the awesome creators of the event year after year), all 15 wonderful Scarecrow Sponsors as well as, MP Larry Miller, MPP Bill Walker, Exec Director of Community Foundation Aly Boltman, FEO rep Rosemarie O’Brien, and Mary Jo Osborn from Third Line Homes (sponsors of the Tourism Award).
All of you, please take a bow!!
With Deep Appreciation & Warm Scarecrow Wishes,
Proud Head Scarecrow
